Running With Scissors

So, my car's been in the shop for the last four (!?) days and i'm getting a little antsy. I wouldn't recommend fixing a car through insurance if at all possible. Especially for something as trivial as door locks. My car could have been fixed a week and half ago if I would have taken it where I wanted to. But, I took it to state farm's recommended shop and am in turn getting milked. In the meantime I am dring a little rental chevy aveo. And i do mean little, it's about the size of my thumb. The wheelbase is the same as my wingspan. And it wasn't exactly easy to get. Have you tried to rent a car without having a reservation? They treated me like I was applying for citizenship after just arriving from the moon. They needed three pieces of I.D., my place of employment, my mother's maiden name and a partridge in a pear tree. I couldn't come up with the last thing but promised a little somethin' somethin' when I returned. I'll give them somethin', alright!

In music news, three big discs are coming out this week:

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam
Tool - 10,000 days
the previously mentioned Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere

The early reviews for PJ and Tool are nothing special. Since it seems that Tool has not progressed in any way since Aenima in '96, I'm with my man BBBoris (www.bigbadboris.com) in believing I am better off without them. Although, i might still check it out. All three of these albums can be found, in their entirety, at the bittorrent site www.seedler.org. I'm likely going to hell anyway, so why not go out with guns blazing.

more music...
It turns out Paul Wall, he of the $30,000 grills, is teaming up with the transplants to record a new album under the name 'expensive tastes'. Well, it couldn't be worse than the last transplants album especially since Paul Wall can rap and the 'plants token white rapper, well, can't.

In conclusion, I got my tax check this week. If you don't see me around for awhile it's because I've already left for Vegas to begin a long bender. There'll only be a four or five words in my vocabulary for the next week or so: poker, strippers, blow and skeet skeet (this one's for you CVO).

GO OILERS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah warm weather and nice women. Gotta love whyte around this time of year. I was driving down the ave, checking out the scenary (if you know what I mean) and nearly rear-ended someone, twice!
I watched the new coachella dvd. Brings back a lot of really good memories. I love how, with live music, I can go back to a certain point in my life and those times can become as vivid today as being there originally. That probably only makes sense to me.
Anywayz, I kind of wish I was going to the concert this year even though the lineup is lacking compared to previous years. Oh well, Sasquatch is coming up so all is not lost.

In celebration of their upcoming show in e-town with death cab for cutie, I proclaim franz ferdinand the ugliest band in the business. Pictures don't lie, folks.

Here's another reason to hate the gas companies. Exxon Mobil posted profits of $36 billion in 2005 while only investing $10 million on direct research on alternative energy. And I thought the banks were bad for raping us with their service charges and fees while reaping in record profits year after year. This takes the cake.
It makes me wanna drive my car off a cliff. I mean, it cost me $40 to fill up my little shitbox car the other day! I will politely bow out of this subject until a later date. If you need me, I'll be searching for a cliff.

So I'm driving towards the university area, up a hill, with hawralak park on my right when I see this dude on a crotch rocket. He's acting shifty, looking behind him and slowing down. All of a sudden he starts catwalking it all the way up the hill. The only thing that creeped into my mind was I hope you fall you fuckin' jackoff so I can see your brains splatter and take satisfaction in describing what happened to the accident recreator. That might be morbid and definitely not a normal response but that's how I roll. If you don't like it...you know what you can do.

Moving on...

A couple songs you may want to check out:

The Stills - in the beginning - www.myspace.com/thestills
MSTRKRFT (an offshoot of DFA 1979, pictured) - paris - www.myspace.com/MSTRKRFT
Feist - mushaboom(k-os mix)

speaking of DFA 1979, here's a video which may be my favorite of all time:

www.deathfromabove1979.com/video/sexyresults.html

In terms of albums, my favorite this week is eagles of death metal - death by sexy

And lastly, Bright Eyes is coming to town (for the uninformed - it's a band) June 7. Ladies get your kleenex ready. You know who you are.

Oh, and I won my hockey pool this week - $440 - so don't come callin' for money, especially you mcduffe (get a haircut, loser!!!).

In local news...Did you hear about the explosion at a cow factory in calmar?

It was utter destruction.

Oh, Snap! Well, I'm out. Sometimes you gotta end on a high note, even if i just started.

Remember, I'm here all week.

Well, it's really late and I should be getting to bed but I don't really care. I have to get up in less than three hours but it doesn't really faze me. It's been an up and down week but it has ended quite well. Anywayz, my car got broken into for the fourth time in less than a year early this week. So it really wasn't a good start but after this evening, I don't care. First of all, the oilers clinched a playoff berth tonight and, well... let's just say it was a good night in other ways as well. I think I owe plazier B something.

Oiler pride forever, yo!

Upper/Lower Body Injuries

You can tell playoff time is nearly here because of the reoccurence of a phenomenon. It's the return of the ever-present lower body injury and the dreaded, yet equally vague, upper body injury. Case in point: Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings and one of my pool picks. Suddenly last week he came down with a mystery lower body injury. Now it could be a legitimate ailment that the team is trying to keep on the down low - as is common practice in the playoffs - or since the wings already have the conference sewn up, they could be resting their best player. I believe it's the latter, but I could be wrong. Oh well, my pool win is basically a done deal.

On another note, the Oilers lost again tonight. Another day, another loss and I'm sure another soft Roloson goal.

In other news...Proof from the rap group D12 slain in an unsolved murder in detroit. He was probably the only other guy in that group with some talent along with Eminen. The character played by Mekhi Phifer in '8 Mile' was based on him. He was 32. Pour some Cristal on the earth for your homie.
R.I.P Big Proof

Sorry, I have dual picture syndrome. I will try and find a cure for it.

So I started running again this week. Alright, I never really ran regularly before but I'm buoyed but my sister's marathonian aspirations. I plan on giving her a run for her money (pardon the pun). I'm also motivated by the comments of one Katelyn Combs. In passing, I mentioned that I was going to run a half-marathon this summer but I was not totally serious about it. Then Ms. Combs, not really knowing the extent of my physical fitness, scoffed at the suggestion that I could actually do it. Well, that's really all the motivation I need.
Anywayz, my training this week consisted of a 25 minute run with a steep hill climb near the end and a 40 minute run with some stairs thrown in 2/3 of the way through. That was my first mistake. If you're going to do stairs don't do them near the end of a run. There's literally a 5o% chance that you will survive. I was one of the lucky ones this time but I've learned my lesson. I can definitely see why people have heart attacks while running. It was merely a slight stumble but it won't keep me from my ultimate goal, proving Katelyn Combs wrong.

According to my reliable source, it sounds like the chilli peppers are coming to town again. It doesn't really excite me. I'm pretty sure they're not going to show me anything I haven't seen.

Rest assured, your new favorite group will be Gnarls Barkley. Check out the tracks "Crazy" and "Basically". Really dope, as the young kids would say. Also liking:

The Alchemist - hold you down
Hot Chip - over and over
The Raconteurs - steady as she goes
Snoop Dogg - ain't no fun (old school joint)

In terms of albums, I'm really staring to dig the new Yeah yeah yeahs. Definitely worth checking out.

Free Food - and Chinese Yet

Gotta Love free food, whatever the variety. I'm not usually a big fan of chinese food but when it's free and it's at work I might turn into a different person. That was the case tonight. I probably ate enough to feed an impoverished third world country for a week. And strangely enough, after the stomach pains went away and the dust cleared about an hour later, I was hungry again. Why does that happen with chinese? Where did all that food go? I have an idea where it's going later but that's beside the point.
