9/11 Anniversary
With tommorow being the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks CBS re-ran a documentary that I had seen a few years ago. It was filmed by a couple of French brothers who just happened to be doing a doc on the NY fire department. They were following the department around on the morning of the attacks and got the only video footage of the first plane hitting the WTC. They were also at ground zero when the towers were collapsing and all hell was breaking loose. Out of all the stuff I've seen about 9/11 this is the most profound, riveting and real. It's amazing how much of a war zone Manhattan looked like after. And, having been there last year I saw first hand the equally amazing recovery that NYC has made.
The stories of heroism and strength in the face of catastrophe that were exhibited on that day were truly inspirational and even though it happened in another country most people will never forget. The updated version of the doc had some "where are they now" stories on some of the firefighters and even Robert Deniro took time off from his lame American express commercials to speak briefly from ground zero.

On a lighter note, I got suckered for the second time in a couple years with the e-mail that claims microsoft will pay you for each person you send it to. It all started when i got a message from Merko that looked familiar and had obviously been passed around like Pinner's mom (meaning a lot). I'm sure you've seen it: it says that microsoft is doing some beta-testing and all you have to do is send the message to everyone you know and you'll get paid handsomely. It even claims it was on "Good Morning America". That's all I needed to hear so I fired it off to everyone I know. But after reading a little more into it online I found out that this a huge hoax that has been going around for a number of years and even suckered me before. I feel like such a tool.
