Doubleheader Weekend
Despite my best efforts, it was another successful doubleheader weekend. I told myself I was going to take it easy at least one night this weekend but as per usual (this summer anyways), it didn't work out that way. This is ususally around the time of the summer where everything kind of slows down. It seems like after the fringe ends everybody goes back into their caves til' next year. As much as I like hanging around the fringe and seeing the lovely ladies that frequent it, I'm glad it's over for another year. There's just too damn many people around here
when it's on.Going back to my weekend, I tried absinthe for the first time. It was interesting to say the least. Maybe it's better as a mixer. I wouldn't recommend it as a shot. It made my eyes instantly water and pretty much almost knocked me on my feet. I guess the history of absinthe goes back to the eighteenth century. It was also banned in the US and every country in Europe except France, Spain and England, before the beginning of WW1. This was because of its reputation for causing madness and delerium in those who drank it. Despite what you've heard, absinthe's current incarnation is not a hallucinogenic. It does apparently cause a feeling of clarity and sharpness in perception, though. I didn't experience those effects but maybe I just needed to drink more. The problem is it's far stronger than most spirits so overdoing it might cause you to see the green fairy when you wake up the next day.
Another thing I learned this weekend. Don't judge a book by its cover. Ever since meeting a certain someone - they shall remain nameless to protect the innocent - I didn't really have a good view of them beacause it seemed like they ignored me whenever I was around them. But yesterday I actually had the longest and best conversation I've ever had with this person and totally got a better impression of them. I'm glad. Well, I won't be so quick to judge anymore.
In music news...
The word on the street is ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has joined Modest Mouse as a full-fledged member. That's a little bit weird. I've never really been a Smiths fan so this doesn't really hit my radar very hard. It can't really hurt them as a band, can it?
Also, Bloc Party is apparently opening for Panic! At The Disco on their current tour. What!!? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Who's advising you mofos'? It might be time to look for new mangement, boys. BP are ten times the band that Panic! will ever be. And that's the truth.
Some of my current listening includes the new Junior Boys album "so this is goodbye". They should be called Junior Boy since one of the guys left the group since their last album. It doesn't really matter to me, though. It's good music, almost Hot Chippish electronica.
Pinback is still taking over my life again as i have discovered some of their older stuff that is killer. That is one band i cannot get enough of, it's almost sickening, really.

If you don't like all the people around Whyte Ave you should move.
